Winner of the EnjoyGadgets 2012-02-01 2TB HDD GiveawayWe have a new winner for the EnjoyGadgets 2011-02-01 2TB HDD Giveaway! Last year’s flood in Thailand still had tremendous effects on harddrive prices: they’re doubled. So it probably doesn’t hurt too much to win a free 2TB harddrive once in a while, right?
We have 441 entrants, so the chance to win was actually greater than that to be struck by lightning. Alright, alright, no more teasing, I get it. And the winner is… Reeder for Chrome: Beautify your Google Reader in Chrome
If you are an RSS addict and you happen to have an iPhone or iPad, Reeder is a must-have. It syncs Google Reader and present it in such a beautiful way that makes reading so much easier, peaceful background, beautiful fonts, exquisite white space position, and easy operations. For Mac users, they are lucky to get a Reeder for OSX, but there’s no Reeder for Windows. We introduced you an add-on on Firefox, called PureReader, which mimicks Reeder’s user-interface and things were good for a couple of month. Until last week Google pushed its new design of Google Reader, and everything is broken in PureReader. Switching back to Google Reader’s original Web UI hurts my eyes so badly that I stopped reading RSS for a week. With 3000+ feeds stacking up, I’m almost desperate enough to spent $999 on a Macbook Air plus another $9.99 for Reeder. Then came this Reeder for Chrome out of the blue, which is an add-on for Chrome that installs a theme close to the original Reeder for OSX, and it’s free. What a relief! Check it out! Now let me read some feeds and be back later. See ya! iPhone 4S, Meh
Sure the chip inside is faster, the memory is larger, the battery lasts longer, but nothing exciting, nothing makes you wow. It’s been 3 months plus a year since iPhone 4, with all the anticipating, Apple delivers only a mediocre update, even Apple knows it can’t be called iPhone 5, so there goes 4S, as in S for “Same”? The good thing is that, you can sneak around and secretly upgrade to iPhone 4S without your good wife/gf or husband/bf knowing about it and whining for too much money wasted. Oh well, before you get bored, here’s some iOS 5 Gold Master builds for fun: [Breaking] Steve Jobs resigned.
We all knew it’s a matter of time, but I never thought it would be this early, not before iPhone 5 is rumored to be released next month. Steve Jobs has always been seen as the sole reason of Apple’s current success, and his health condition or resignation will no longer guarantee Apple’s long-term advantage over its competitors, and tomorrow’s stock price on AAPL will likely reflect that. With Apple being one the hottest and most profitable compan and Steve Jobs being a charismatic idol among fans, the only reason for his resignation is his health condition. And I wish all the best to Steve Jobs, after all, money and fame come and go, as long as we have health, one can always come back. Steve published his letter:

If you’re a frequent Google Reader user or an RSS reader in general, you know how reading (or just scanning through) hundreds of pieces of news every day can be stressful (but addicting), on iOS, luckily we have Reeder, absolutely the best in function, speed and GUI design. As a Mac user, you can purchase Reeder for Mac, but PC and Linux users are not left in the dark: if you use Firefox, try Pure Reader for Firefox, it’s a resign of Google Reader’s default UI, and once installed, you get a pretty interface with larger and prettier fonts, larger white space, smaller other things less important and less ads. I’m not sure if it’s related to Reeder, as the UI are quite close. Grab it for free: Download. It is actually ported by by Jimmy Ti of the original Pure Reader for Safari: Download, by Na’ Design. Canadian PM Stephen Harper Shows Off His Cute Kitty on Google+
I thought Stephen Harper, as a Prime Minister of Canada, would have been busier with things like, running the nation. But sure he can be addicted to online social media like Google+ and cute kitties as well, who wouldn’t be, right? Besides this being remotely related to Google+, why is this a gadget news? Oh well, remember how people in Canada always say how Harper is a robot? There you go. We Are Looking for Thunderbolt Adapters
In the world of video-out ports, Apple is like a playboy who constantly changes mate. For the past 5 years or so, Apple computer’s video port has changed from Mini DVI to Micro DVI to Mini Displayport, and now Thunderbolt, despite HDMI / Mini HDMI being the most popular and ubiquitous port on HDTVs or Monitors. When somebody gets a new Macbook now, how can he/she output his screen to another? He/she might have the coolest (or hottest) laptop in the classroom/office, but too bad it cannot be used to give a presentation because virtually no projector accepts thunderbolt for now, not even Mini Displayport which Apple pushed already 2 years ago. As we have been providing Mini DisplayPort to VGA and HDMI adapters for Mac users, we will be actively searching for Thunderbolt to HDMI and VGA adapters for you guys, so stay in touch. SONY is Hacked, Again
Back in early May Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) was hacked, with millions of customers information, including password and credit card information, stolen, and then a couple of weeks later when PSN was back online, it was immediately hacked again because the new PSN simply asked the users to change their passwords, and the hackers have the password-retrieving information from the 1st hacking. Then soon, Sony Ericsson Canada’s website is hacked with customer information stolen. And what do you know: A group called LulzSec today announced that they took about a million usernames and passwords in the US, the Netherlands and Belgium from SonyPictures.com. They actually made it available for download, to me, that’s totally not cool. Not surprisingly, according to these hackers, all these information is not encrypted at all:
Hacking a website to show off that you can and to warn the hacked website of its fragile security is one thing, using the stolen information for someone’s own profit or carelessly making it publicly available is another. I’m sure Sony gets a message about its privacy protection is too weak, but why is Sony becoming almost like a lab test mouse to the hacking communities? Why targeting Sony? Personally, somehow I get a feeling that it has something to do with Sony being extra tough on Geohot who hacked the PS3, which might have ignited the fire of revenge from the hackers around the world. Just my theory, what do you think? Let us know. P.S. If you have ever purchased anything from Sony, now is a good time to call them to delete your profile, if they can. Updates on Canada Post Strike and What It Means to Your Order
Despite Canada Post responded today with another offer, CUPW has initiated the strike as it notified 2 more days ago. However, it may not be as bad as we initially thought it would be: the strike will be rotating. Tonight, Canada Post’s Winnipeg unit will be on strike, with everywhere else being normal. Since we’re in BC, even though Winnipeg, Manitoba, is on strike, all shipments will be processed here normally for now. If a shipment is routed to Winnipeg during its strike, it will get stuck there; however, if it isn’t, it will be delivered just as normally. Given this update, we decided to ship your orders first-thing-in-the-morning tomorrow on Friday. Surely, it is possible that once the rotating strike starts rolling, somewhere in the way, your order might get unlucky and get stuck, but it isn’t as bad as we thought earlier with the entire postal system shutting down nationwide. If there’s more update on this labour relations situation, we will keep you posted. |
